How to Change a Note's Template?

Convert Clinical Notes Between Documentation Formats Instantly

Updated over 3 months ago

Transform existing clinical notes into different professional formats without losing content or starting from scratch. Whether insurance requirements change, supervisory preferences differ, or clinical needs evolve, Supanote seamlessly converts your documentation between all major template formats.

Common scenarios for template conversion:

  • Insurance provider requires SOAP format over DAP documentation

  • Supervisor requests specific template format for review

  • Clinical situation better suits different documentation structure

  • Practice protocols change mid-treatment episode

1. Open the note

  • Go to Notes Pending Review (or search for the client)

  • Click View Note

2. Change the template

  • In the left panel, go to Note Preferences, select Template

  • Use the Template dropdown to select a new format (SOAP, DAP, BIRP, EMDR, etc.)

3. Regenerate in the new structure

  • Supanote reflows the existing content into the new structure

  • Review the new layout (headings/sections may shift slightly)

💡 Tip: If you’ve made a lot of manual edits you don’t want to lose, click
Download PDF first or Copy the text to a doc before switching.

4. Finalize

  • Make small tweaks as needed (tone, length, terms)

  • Click Mark as Reviewed when done
